ANSWERS:

I) GENERAL:


1) What is the purpose of the UltraLight™?


The purpose of the UltraLight™ is to save the user energy and money by putting the user in control of the light generation process.  Without the UltraLight™ the consumer is forced to live with lighting characteristics such as energy usage, efficiency, and light bulb life defined by the light bulb manufacturer, as these values could not be changed… until now, with the use of the UltraLight™.


2) What are the benefits of using the UltraLight™?


The user will always save energy and money by using the UltraLight™ product.  Additionally, depending on the selected operating mode of the device, benefits can include increased energy efficiency, extended light bulb life, improved lighting quality and coloration, and decreased light bulb glare.  Also, no matter which operating mode for the UltraLight™ product is selected, a slower lamp turn-on speed, of a fraction of a second, to help prevent premature light bulb blowouts is always obtained.  Besides all of this, in what is referred to as Bulb Saver Mode™, total thermal energy output of the device and its light bulbs, can be significantly reduced, thereby reducing Air Conditioning costs during the summer months.


3) What are the energy and money saving features of the UltraLight™?


The UltraLight™ has the ability to decrease energy usage for a lower electric bill, greatly extend light bulb life so you spend less money buying light bulbs, and decrease light fixture heat emission so your air conditioning costs are lower.


4) What is a “Lamp Economizer”?


The UltraLight™ product is a Lamp Economizer because it has the ability to reduce all consumables (energy, light bulbs, and money) related to the illumination process.


5) Why does the UltraLight™ invention have a patent pending status?


A patent application has been filed with the Patent and Trademark office in Washington, DC, for this unique and innovative product that gives the user control of the illumination process, which until the invention of the UltraLight™ has never before existed.


6) Where can I purchase the UltraLight™?


The UltraLight™ product can be purchased from any retailer listed on the “Retail Distribution” page of this website.



II) INSTALLATION:


7) Where in my home or business can the UltraLight™ be used?


The UltraLight™ can be installed anywhere in the indoor of your home or business that you would like to save energy and money and substantially improve the quality of lighting that you get from your current lamp fixtures.


8) In what kind of lamp fixtures should the UltraLight™ be used?


The UltraLight™ can be used in any kind of lamp fixture that has room for this device.  If it is to be used in a tabletop lamp fixture, you’ll just need to ensure proper clearance for the lampshade.


Please note that the UltraLight™ is especially suited for commercial track lighting.


9) Should the UltraLight™ be used ONLY in tabletop lamp fixtures?


Absolutely not!  The picture on the front of the packaging is there merely to illustrate a single example of the use and application of the UltraLight™ product.


10) How do I install the UltraLight™?


Simply remove the light bulb that is currently in your lamp fixture, and replace it with the UltraLight™ product.  Then install 2 appropriately sized light bulbs into the UltraLight™ product.  That’s it!


11) Can the UltraLight™ be installed upside-down?


Yes!  In fact the UltraLight™ can be installed in any orientation that you would prefer.  Just bear in mind that it is better to use lower wattage bulb combinations the more downward the device is pointing.  The reason for this has do to the fact that the heat generated by the light bulbs rises up and flows over the UltraLight™ unit raising its internal temperature.  By using lower wattage bulb combinations you can ensure a long life for the product.


12) What kind of light bulbs can be installed in the UltraLight™?


Any incandescent or halogen 120V light bulbs can be used with this product.  In the near future we will be releasing Ultimate Interfaces brand LED light bulbs that will be fully compatible with the UltraLight™ product.  These LED bulbs used in the UltraLight™ will give the consumer the ultimate in energy savings, light output, and light bulb life.  Stay tuned for more information!



III) OPERATION:


13) How can I control the operation of the UltraLight™?


Simply varying the wattages of the 2 bulbs installed in the UltraLight™ product controls the operation of the UltraLight™.


14) How do I pick which light bulb combination is best for me?


First, refer to the chart printed on the back of the product packaging.  Then choose the light bulb combination that gives you the light output and operating characteristics you desire.  Choose either Bulb Saver Mode™ or Energy Saver Mode™ characteristics.


15) How do I select the operating mode of the UltraLight™?  Are there any switches to do this?


There are no switches of any kind.  Simply choosing the wattages of the light bulb combination installed in the UltraLight™ determines its operating mode.


16) What is Bulb Saver Mode™?


When 2 matched or at least similarly matched light bulbs are installed in the UltraLight™ product, the unit said to be operating in this mode.  Bulb Saver Mode™ is characterized primarily by greatly extended light bulb life and more evenly illuminated light bulbs.  Additionally the user will use less energy, save money, and have light output with better lighting coloration than without the product; as well as eliminate the blinding light bulb glare that always exists with stand-alone light bulbs.  The UltraLight™ product does this by evenly distributing the energy across 2 light bulbs instead of dissipating all the energy across just 1 stand-alone light bulb.


17) What is Energy Saver Mode™?


When 2 dissimilar light bulbs are installed in the UltraLight™ product, the unit said to be operating in this mode.  Energy Saver Mode™ is characterized primarily by greatly increased energy efficiency in the light generation process and non-evenly illuminated light bulbs.  Additionally the user will use much less energy, save money, and have light output with better whiteness than without the product.  The UltraLight™ product does this by distributing the energy more heavily across 1 of the light bulbs, than would be otherwise.


18) Why is Bulb Saver Mode™ the preferred mode of operation?


Bulb Saver Mode™ greatly extends light bulb life while giving the user energy savings.  Energy Saver Mode™ tremendously improves energy savings, much more so than even Bulb Saver Mode™ does, but does so at the expense of the light bulb life of 1 of the 2 bulbs installed in the UltraLight™.


19) How come 2 of the light bulb combinations listed on the packaging are listed as having “No Benefit”?


This is only because these 2 particular light bulb combinations do not seem to squarely operate the device in either Bulb Saver Mode™ or Energy Saver Mode™.


The UltraLight™ product will always save the user energy and money!


20) Can the UltraLight™ be used with a dimmer?


No.  The UltraLight™ product is not compatible with most dimmers.



IV) TESTING:


21) Has the UltraLight™ been tested to prove its energy saving features?


Yes.  Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. has conducted tests for just this purpose:  to demonstrate the effects of operating the UltraLight™ in Energy Saver Mode™.  Additionally, tests were conducted by a Connecticut based energy-auditing firm showing clear proof of the energy savings obtainable by using the UltraLight™ in Bulb Saver Mode™.


22) Can the UltraLight™ really extend light bulb life by up to 10 times?


The UltraLight™ can potentially extend light bulb life by this much, maybe more.  Many factors ranging from the quality of the materials used in the manufacture of the light bulbs to light bulb handling all can affect the ultimate life span of a particular light bulb.  Light bulbs used in Bulb Saver Mode™ have been shown to last for many years.  In light of all these variables it is difficult to determine the exact Light Bulb Life Extension Factor for a given light bulb combination.  Every effort has been made to show the most conservative values for all light bulb combinations.


23) Does the UltraLight™ save energy in Bulb Saver Mode™?


Yes.  Even in this mode of operation the UltraLight™ will significantly reduce energy consumption by up to 35% for a given light output.  Even though the energy efficiency of the individual light bulbs installed in the UltraLight™ has been decreased to extend their life, the user gets light emitted from 2 light bulbs combined instead of just 1.  Further, the UltraLight™ always serves as lighting ballast, returning up to 48% of all incoming electrical current back to the power company instead of allowing this flow to pass through the light bulb filaments, thus also saving energy.


24) Are there any downsides to using the UltraLight™?


Only one.  When using the UltraLight™ in Energy Saver Mode™, light bulb life of 1 of the 2 light bulbs will be shortened.

25) What is the quality level of the UltraLight™ product?


The UltraLight™ product is made from the highest quality RoHS compliant electronic components, GE Plastics Lexan®, and all Brass and Beryllium Copper construction.  The product is fully UL and cUL safety certified, and is 100% RoHS compliant.  Great emphasis has been put on an attention to detail and defect free, high-quality assembly.


26) Does the UltraLight™ product have a warranty?


Yes.  The UltraLight™ has a 5 year limited warranty.  Please see the packaging documentation for details.


27) Why is the UltraLight™ product made in China?


This is being done primarily for cost purposes.  If we didn’t have the help of our Chinese partners and suppliers the retail price would be unaffordable by most consumers.  This however does not mean that quality of parts, materials, or assembly has been compromised in any way.


Additionally, we are making every effort to ensure that all suppliers and manufacturing facilities follow all Chinese Labor Laws, as well as providing good working conditions for all of their employees.

28) What is the quality level of the UltraLight™ packaging?


The UltraLight™ packaging is of the highest quality, featuring simple, sturdy construction, full 4-color printing, and a gloss finish.  All of the packaging is 100% RoHS compliant and is fully recyclable.  All directions and consumer information is printed on the cardboard packaging, including a grade ‘A’ tested - UPC barcode.


29) Why is the packaging written in 3 different languages?


All packaging information is written in English, French, and Spanish in order to facilitate communication to the widest possible consumer base in the United States and Canada.



VII) CERTIFICATIONS:


30) Is the UltraLight™ a safe product?


Yes.  The UltraLight™ has been fully safety tested and certified by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., obtaining both a UL mark for the U.S.A. and a cUL mark for Canada.


31) Is the UltraLight™ a green product?


Yes.  The UltraLight™ and its packaging is 100% RoHS compliant, certified by SGS Laboratories.  This level of RoHS compliance means that this product has been fully tested to not contain Lead, Cadmium, and many other hazardous substances.  All plastics used in the manufacturing of this product and all packaging materials are fully recyclable.



VIII) TECHNICAL:


32) What is “Light Bulb Brightness Symmetry %”?


For any given light bulb combination the Light Bulb Brightness Symmetry % is a comparison of the relative brightness of the 2 light bulbs installed in the UltraLight™ product.  For example:  50/50 means the 2 light bulbs are equally bright as in Bulb Saver Mode™.  Another example:  75/25 means 1 light bulb is brighter than the other as in Energy Saver Mode™.


33) How does changing the energy efficiency of the illumination process by using the UltraLight™ affect change in light bulb life as expressed in the last 2 columns of the chart on the back of the packaging?


Depending on how symmetrically the 2 light bulbs installed in the UltraLight™ are illuminated, generally a negative energy efficiency increase extends light bulb life over the manufactures advertised stand-alone light bulb life.  A positive increase shortens it.


Many other factors affect the actual life the user will get from a particular light bulb even when using the UltraLight™.


34) How does the UltraLight™ improve light quality?


Light quality or whiteness is improved when the UltraLight™ is operated in Energy Saver Mode™, by increasing the energy efficiency over the manufacturers advertised stand-alone efficiency value.  By doing so, the General Color Rendering Index is increased, and a whiter light is produced.


35) How does the UltraLight™ improve lighting coloration?


Lighting coloration is improved when the UltraLight™ is operated in Bulb Saver Mode™, by decreasing the energy efficiency compared to the manufacturers advertised stand-alone efficiency value.  By doing so, the General Color Rendering Index is decreased, and a more colorful light is produced.


36) What is meant by:  “Slows Lamp Turn-On Speed – Preventing Premature Light Bulb Blowouts”?


Lamp turn on speed refers to the amount of time it takes for the filament of a light bulb to go from dark to fully illuminated.  By extending the amount of time it takes to do this by a small amount (~100 ms), the UltraLight™ has the unique ability to help prevent premature light bulb blowouts no matter which light bulb combination is selected.  The sudden in-rush of electrical current that always occurs with stand-alone light bulbs is prevented, thereby reducing thermal shock to the filaments.


37) Why do both light bulbs go out if only 1 of the light bulbs installed the UltraLight™ is blown?


This is because internally the 2 light bulbs are connected in series.
